Motherwell goalkeeper Mark Gillespie has claimed that Celtic could slot home five or six tomorrow night if his team aren’t at their best.
Celtic take the trip to Fir Park in sizzling form. Since the winter break, we’ve won all five of our matches, scoring 15 goals in the process.
The new partnership between Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths has been working a treat. The duo’s speed and movement have been causing everyone problems since the return, with Motherwell next in line tomorrow.

And Gillespie has admitted that it could be a rough night for his own side if they don’t improve from their 1-0 loss at Livingston on Saturday. Speaking to Not the Old Firm, he said the following:
“We didn’t play well as a team and I’m disappointed with that. When you get in 0-0 at half time, you’re happy, it’s a reset. We changed the shape and made subs so you’re thinking we can maybe turn the game around.
“But we didn’t really handle what they threw at us. I’m not taking any pleasure out my own performance but when I analyse and watch my clips back I’ll be pleased with a lot of my performance.
“But I’d rather have nothing to do and win 2-0 every day of the week. We need to get back to basics for Wednesday. We know if we turn up like that, Celtic have the quality to put five or six past us.”
Celtic are due to give someone a doing
Since we’ve returned, the goal return has been good. We’ve also had a couple of three-goal wins against the likes of Ross County and Hamilton respectively. However, we’ve still to seriously come down hard on a side for a while.
Not since a 4-0 rout of Livingston 16 games ago have Celtic beaten a side by four or more goals. Fir Park is, by no means, an easy place to go, but if Celtic turn up then we can run amok anywhere in Scotland.
Motherwell, meanwhile, come into this one needing to bounce back from a shocking performance at Livingston. Their 1-0 defeat to Gary Holt’s men wasn’t helped by the fact that they had one shot at goal and it came at the death (BBC).

Celtic won 5-2 at Fir Park earlier on this season, but only after we had been given a scare as Liam Donnelly opened the scoring for the Steelmen. We’ll be looking to avoid any such drama this time around.
Yet, as much as a four or five-goal win would be welcome, it’s not of imperative importance. Rangers have been struggling recently and look close to crumbling in the title race. Therefore, just getting the three points at Motherwell and continuing to put the pressure on them is the main thing.
Gillespie isn’t wrong to say that we could score five or six tomorrow, but I’ll settle for a boring 1-0 and a big three points.
