Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele is reportedly in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The French forward is set to depart Lyon this summer at the end of his contract, and the Germans are sniffing around a free transfer.

Sky’s German reporter Florian Plettenberg says that Frankfurt have contacted Dembele‘s management while Marseille and Italian champions Napoli are also interested.

“We are considering and valuing this option,” was the line on the Frankfurt chat from Dembele’s agent Mamadi Fofana.

Of course, this story doesn’t really affect Celtic in any real way.

We were understood to have added a decent sell-on fee when he left for Lyon in 2018, but that won’t be worth anything when he moves for nothing.

However, I can’t be the only Celtic fan who finds a strange pleasure in the forward being linked to 2021/22 UEFA Europa League winners Frankfurt.

The Germans have been widely appreciated by Hoops supporters over the past 12 months, since they defeated Rangers to the aforementioned trophy.

Their penalty-kick win in Seville saved us from the hell of the Ibrox side winning a European trophy. It was perhaps one of best moments in the whole of last season.

Seeing Dembele sign for Frankfurt would be strangely pleasing for a lot of Celtic fans and you can bet that the Bundesliga side would shift a few “Dembele” shirts to Scotland.

We’ll see if the chat comes to anything. Whatever happens, it’s important that Dembele gets his career properly back on track.

He’s 27 in a few months.
