Moussa Dembele has moved to quash rumours that he will be leaving Lyon this summer. The former Celtic striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 side with Manchester United reportedly interested. However, he says he won’t be departing his home country just yet.
The Daily Record has quotes from Dembele speaking after last night’s under-21 victory over Croatia:
“I still have 4 years left on my contract, I will be in Lyon next season.”
That seems pretty definitive from the 22-year-old.
Staying put
Dembele had a really good first season at Lyon. He netted a total of 20 goals, including a strike in the Champions League. The Frenchman is destined for big things but still looks to have his feet planted firmly on the ground.
At 22 he’s still in the infancy of his career. There’s no need for him to rush into a move and leave a club where he is currently flourishing.
Celtic are understood to hold a healthy sell-on fee for the striker. That means that the club will be set to make a decent whack of money when he does inevitably move on. That means that there’s more than just a passing interest in the Invincible’s career. It’s also financial.
