Murdo MacLeod has put things right regarding the current Celtic run of form as he outlined the bigger picture.
The Hoops have racked up four consecutive wins for only the second time since October. Two of them were convincing 4-0 successes as victories return to Parkhead too little too late.
Neil Lennon today stated that Celtic are looking to “rectify” being 18 points behind Rangers by winning the rest of our games this season. He also touched on how comfortable he is with his current position, something that infuriated many in the Celtic support.
And MacLeod has also put his run of form into perspective, as he outlined the bigger picture.
Speaking on the Celtic Huddle Podcast today, MacLeod said: “It’s difficult to say we’ve turned a corner because we always said after the horrendous run that Celtic went through then won some games back-to-back (in December), then lost and drew games and now it’s back again (a winning run).
“But Celtic fans are looking at turning a corner, and that’s challenging at the top. That’s turning a corner – when you’re sitting 18 points behind that’s not turning a corner. I think it’s very difficult (to keep Lennon on) because there was one target this season – win 10-in-a-row.
“It never happened. You can lose a title by a couple of points or lose in the last game of the season. But to be sitting the way we’re sitting just now is really poor. For Celtic fans it’s maybe four wins in a row, but you’re looking at the performances – it’s still not Celtic.”
Spot on from Murdo MacLeod – season can’t be rectified by a few Celtic wins
This is so important for Murdo to come out with. It’s vital that high-profile Celtic-minded pundits push this idea. Because it’s ultimately what will help keep the pressure on the club and push us forward.
I’ve discussed this in the past. A few wins can’t be used to mask the failings of the season. You can’t put a plaster on sub a monumental wound. We’re winning games in a competition called the Scottish Premiership. Therefore, your target, if your Celtic, is to win that competition. That’s what makes winning games important. But that’s not going to happen.
So let’s not blow this winning run out of proportion. Even if we secure 10 on the bounce, it still doesn’t matter. It’s not as vital as ensuring we get the necessary change in the dugout that we need.

It’s superb to see that Murdo understands this. Lennon thinking that he can rectify the loss of the 10 with a relatively meaningless run of wins is an insult. It’s a slap in the face to how fans felt regarding the season and the importance of it.
Here’s hoping this is the same view Murdo and the rest of the Celtic supporters have the longer the winning run goes on. It’s okay to remain Lennon Out after a few wins. When it gets to nine or 10 wins, which we still want to see as Celtic fans, our main objective must remain in sight – change.
In the meantime, the manager can count himself lucky that he remains in the gig.
In other news, the Celtic supporters weren’t happy with Neil Lennon’s comments on his job review.
