Mikey Johnston put his name up in lights this week after the Celtic star scored his first goal for the Republic of Ireland.
The 24-year-old is yet to feature under Brendan Rodgers this season, but was handed a surprise and much-needed start by the under-fire Stephen Kenny for the Republic of Ireland.
It all ended well for the Celtic man because, not only did he get on the scoresheet, but he also won the Man of the Match award – Shay Given was full of praise for the winger.
That praise didn’t stop there because when Mikey Johnston took to Instagram, he was lauded by a number of players in the comments section.
Rocco Vata applauded his fellow countryman, whilst Portuguese top-flight star for Vitória, Tiago Silva, called the Bhoys star the ‘MVP’.
Understandably so, both the Irish and Celtic fans were delighted for a player who just isn’t getting the rub of the green, in terms of injuries, and will be hoping this will lift him up.

Mikey Johnston’s game time at Celtic
It’s a headache for Brendan Rodgers, but one of those as a manager that you like.
If you were Johnston, then you would be knocking on your manager’s door and asking for some minutes out on the pitch.
Someone like Liam Scales is an example of how you can come in from the cold and make yourself a first-team regular because it wasn’t so long ago that he wasn’t in the first-team picture.
