Neil Lennon has put to bed the notion that Odsonne Edouard will be leaving Celtic before the end of the transfer window.

Reports in Italy claimed that the striker was a target for Lazio. However, Lennon has revealed that he wants to keep the player at Celtic for a long time to come.

“We don’t want him to go” Lennon said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“You can see we have the makings of a very good team and it’s important to keep your kingpins, and he is certainly one of them” he concluded on the matter.

It would not be a surprise to learn that teams are interested in buying Edouard. He has been an excellent player for the Hoops since joining on a permanent deal from PSG last summer.

Must keep player at club for as long as possible

The chances of the player spending the next five years at Celtic are probably remote. However, the Hoops must do all they can to keep the player at the club for as long as possible.

It would make no sense to sell Edouard in the current transfer window, no matter how much money is offered. The Hoops have already sold Kieran Tierney in the summer transfer window. Fans would be justifiably upset if Edouard followed him out of the club.

Thankfully Neil Lennon’s position is that Edouard will not be sold any time soon. As the Celtic boss says, the Hoops currently have the making of a good side. Keeping Edouard at the club can only improve that side.
