Away from Champions League coverage for a second, it was domestic matters that were on Alan Brazil’s mind today.
The radio pundit was speaking to former Celtic boss, Neil Lennon, about the current state of Rangers as the Ibrox club has fallen so far behind the Scottish champions.
A lot of the chat, since Celtic hammered Rangers in the Glasgow Derby at Celtic Park, has been about the gap between both clubs.
And whilst many agree that there is a gap both on and off the park between both clubs, Brazil posed a question to Lennon on whether or not he believed there was another challenger to Celtic’s Scottish Premiership crown up in Scotland.
Brazil: Who are Celtic’s ‘biggest challengers’ for SPFL title
With Rangers sitting five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, Alan Brazil asked Lennon what he thought the chances of the Glasgow two being split were.
Brazil asked on talkSPORT, “Neil, just a quickie and I’m being deadly honest and serious here, there are clearly problems at Rangers.
“Can Aberdeen and Hearts be perhaps Celtic’s big challengers this year?”
Aberdeen are enjoying a rich vein of early-season form right now but do they have the squad to sustain a creditable title challenge?
Lennon ‘expects’ Rangers to improve soon
Lennon has enjoyed some great battles with his former Glasgow rival as a player and a manager and whilst he admits Rangers are not firing on all cylinders yet, he still makes the Ibrox club Celtic’s closest challenger to the title.
Laughing, Lennon replied, “Well Aberdeen have had a great start under their new coach Jimmy Thelin but I expect Rangers to improve as this season goes on.
“I think they’ll get a bit of a lift from the Europa League games. They’ve got some cracking games against Spurs and Man United.
“But it’s been a difficult start for Clement and under the circumstances, he’s doing the best job there anymore there could do.”

With Champions League business over this week, Celtic now face managerless St Johnstone on Saturday the 28th of September at Celtic Park.
Another three points will be expected by the supporters to extend the gap to eight points albeit Rangers face Hibs the following day at Ibrox.
With the season just weeks old, Celtic have already established themselves as the dominant force and, so far, it does look like Brendan Rodgers’ side are going to be difficult to stop.
