One phone call between Neil Lennon and Lewis Morgan’s agent proves the Celtic winger has a future in Glasgow after all.
Morgan had failed to impress in any of his 10 appearances for Celtic before January. Under Brendan Rodgers, the former St Mirren star was given a chance to impress against the likes of Livingston, Kilmarnock, and even against RB Leipzig in the Europa League.
But despite often being given his opportunities down the right, Morgan failed to take them. No surprises then that he was off to Sunderland for a loan spell in January that saw two trips to Wembley. Unfortunately for the winger, however, the Black Cats would lose them both as they remained in League One for another season.

Morgan’s return to Parkhead could easily have resulted in being sent out the door swiftly for another move. But speaking to the Scottish Sun, it appears Morgan has been given a chance to impress.
“Neil Lennon gave my agent a ring. It’s been quite a quick turnover for him and I’m sure he has been busy. Now I’m looking forward to going back in and working with him.
“Of course there is big competition. I knew when signing for the club it was going to be like that. But it helps everyone improve if we are fighting over two spots.
“I still back myself. I was disappointed with the game time at Celtic and how it went, but I went out and got games and now I’m looking forward to going back.”
Is Morgan set to be handed big chance?
Nothing here suggests that Morgan or his agent have been advised to find game-time elsewhere. Celtic manager Neil Lennon appears instead to be happy to welcome him back when we start up pre-season.

Morgan, therefore, has a huge few weeks in front of him. If he impresses during the camp in Austria and Switzerland, he may just get his chance. And that would be some feat when you consider the competition he has for his spot.
The former St Mirren man believes fighting over two spots helps his chances. But that means he’s competing with Jonny Hayes, Scott Sinclair, James Forrest, Daniel Arzani, and Maryan Shved respectively. There are a host of players arguably ahead of him right now in the pecking order.

But irrespective of that, Morgan appears to be getting another chance to impress. It could still come to pass that he does end up heading out on loan if he can’t prove himself once again. The likes of Ryan Christie and Kristoffer Ajer are similar success stories of players to have went out to a rival Premiership side and come back stronger.
For now, however, this doesn’t appear to be on Celtic’s agenda. Everything is in Morgan’s hands – hopefully, he seizes the moment.
