Celtic boss Neil Lennon has had his say as the row over Oliver Burke rumbles on.

The row began when West Brom technical director Luke Dowling criticised the way Burke’s time at Celtic had been handled by the Hoops, and Lennon in particular.

That prompted Celtic to release an angry official statement on the club’s website. Now Lennon has weighed in on the matter.

“Totally unjustified”

“Without any communication beforehand, the person has come out and publicly condemned the club and myself. That is unprofessional and totally unjustified” Lennon told Sky Sports, as cited by the Scottish Sun.

Lennon also felt that perhaps he treated Burke ‘too well’ in comparison to his team-mates.

“In hindsight, maybe I was too good in treating him too well at times, compared to the rest of the group.”

Lennon correct to stand up for himself

Lennon is correct to stand up for both himself and the club in this situation. Burke might not have featured every week under Lennon, but he still played his fair share of matches.

It will be interesting to see if West Brom respond to Lennon’s comments, or if the manager’s statement is the final say on the matter.

Hopefully it will time for all to move on and look forward to next season. That includes Burke, who seems to be in limbo at West Brom. Moving on can help him continue his career.
