Neil Lennon 'confident' Jonny Hayes will be fit for key fixtures
Celtic are having a bit of a problem at left-back ahead of Sunday’s Betfred Cup Final. Greg Taylor has featured for the Hoops at left-back in their last two fixtures.
Normally he would play in the final, but he is cup tied. The other two left-backs this season, Boli Bolingoli and Jonny Hayes are both out injured at the moment. Manager Neil Lennon does have a positive injury update on one of those players though.
He is ‘confident’ that Hayes will shake off his recent shoulder injury to feature in Sunday’s cup final against Rangers and possibly against Hamilton on Wednesday night.
“We are confident”
“It as you were with Jonny, so we are confident he will be fit as well” Lennon said, as reported by the Daily Record.
Hayes’ availability for the Betfred Cup Final has become very important since the injury suffered by Bolingoli. It Hayes can’t make the game, and with Taylor cup ties, it would mean that the Hoops could be going into the game without a left-back.
It probably isn’t even the best circumstances that will find Hayes starting, but at least he has played left-back for the Hoops a few times this season. Most notably, he started in the 2-1 win over Lazio in Rome.
Might not start next game?
It will be interesting to see if Hayes makes an appearance against Hamilton on Wednesday. It might be the better idea to start Greg Taylor in the game, and give Hayes the last half an hour of the game to prove his fitness for Hampden.
If he does feature, you would imagine that Hayes will start against Rangers at Hampden. After his success against Lazio, he should have no fears about playing against the Ibrox side. In fact, it is a game that he should be looking forward to, after his successes at left-back this season.
