Celtic are in discussions with goalkeeper Craig Gordon about signing a contract at the club, manager Neil Lennon confirmed to the Daily Record today.
Gordon is not currently at Lennoxtown training with the Hoops squad after his contract expired at the end of last month.
However, Lennon clearly wants him at Celtic next season, feeling continuity is going to play a big part in the push for ten-in-a-row.
When asked by the media today about Gordon’s status, Lennon said, as quoted by The Record: “Talks are ongoing between the club and Craig. We haven’t seen him, he is not at training at the minute. Hopefully we get that resolved sooner rather than later.
“Already Jozo and Jonny have left so obviously we want to add to the squad and not break it up too much, I think continuity, for this season in particular, is going to be important.”
With Fraser Forster’s future also not certain at Celtic, currently, we can only rely upon the services of Scott Bain and youth prospects heading into next season.
The manager though appears to be doing his best to have a full clutch of top shot-stoppers for the second season in a row.
Gordon reportedly has interest from St Mirren and Hearts too and he may well decide the closing stages of his career are best spent at a club he can get regular week-to-week action, which is no longer the case at Celtic Park.
If Celtic manage to do the crowd-pleasing thing and sign up Forster, the prospect of Gordon getting any minutes next term are slim, especially if he’s not currently part of the pre-season set-up.
