Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed the details of Scott Sinclair’s impending transfer to Preston. The Hoops winger, who is out of contract at the end of the season, will be joining the Championship side on a loan deal until the end of the season. Then he will be free to join whoever he wants in the summer, or presumably stay with Preston if the move is a success.

Lennon made the revelation in a video interview with the BBC.

“It’s to the end of the season. I think Scott wanted to go and play, his game time here was limited. He was struggling to get into the team. He wants to play more football. We’re sorry to see him go, but happy for him to get regular football.”

The nature of Sinclair’s transfer means that the Hoops won’t receive any fee for the experienced campaigner, who played a key role in the recent success Celtic have had in Scotland.

However, as the Hoops boss says, he wanted to play regularly. That wasn’t going to happen, so a move suits all parties.

There might be some Celtic fans out there who aren’t happy about the fact that Sinclair is leaving the club on a free transfer.

Hoops would be unlikely to make much money on transfer

However, it is unlikely that the Hoops would have made that much money on a player who is free to leave for nothing at the end of the season. Therefore, Celtic have done the right thing here. After the career that Sinclair had at the club, he has earned the right to move on a free transfer.

Scott Sinclair was a very good player for the Hoops, but the time is right for the player and Celtic to part ways. This move makes it easier for that to happen, and it is the right thing to do.
