Celtic loanee Mohamed Elyouounssi has quickly become a key man in the Hoops side since joining the club from Southampton. He has scored seven goals and made himself an integral part of the Celtic starting line-up.

There is little doubt that Hoops fans would love to see the player join up with Celtic on a permanent basis. Indeed, a recent report in the Independent claimed that the Hoops would have to pay £10 million to sign the player permanently.

However, Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed that no talks have taken place about Elyounoussi’s future at Celtic Park.

“Not been discussed”

“It’s certainly not been discussed with (Hoops chief executive) Peter Lawwell. Elyounoussi is just in the door, but he’s done very well” Lennon said, as reported by the Daily Record.

Lennon then admitted that the chances of Elyounoussi signing on a permanent basis will come down to finances.

“Whether we can do a deal in the summer, we’ll need to wait and see. It will come down to affordability. He’s enjoying it, and we’re enjoying having him. It’s worked out great for both parties so far.”

There is no doubt that the deal has work well so far for both the player and Celtic. The Hoops have been able to add a new attacking dimension to their side. Whilst Elyounoussi is enjoying the regular football he didn’t get at Southampton.

No need for concern just yet

There is probably no need for Hoops fans to be concerned that talks have not yet taken place about Elyounoussi’s future with the club. As Lennon says, he has not been at Celtic for long. There is still time yet for that to be sorted.

However, as long as he keeps playing well for the Hoops the more you imagine that Southampton will want to have another look at him next season. If that is the case, then it seems unlikely that Elyounoussi will join the Hoops on a permanent basis.
