With the January transfer window open for over a week, Celtic are working away on signings, but have as yet not made their first purchase of the window.
That does not mean that the club aren’t working all out to get deals done though. Indeed, Neil Lennon has detailed just how busy director of football operations Nick Hammond has been in the window so far.
“He’s here, there and everywhere”
“Nick Hammond has been on the phone about four times this week on conference calls, and he’s here, there and everywhere with players at the minute. We’re doing analysis” Lennon said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
Hammond seems to be meticulous when it comes to analysing potential signings for the club in January. That can only be a good thing.
Celtic need to make sure that they get the correct signings in during the January window. It is better to take time than to rush into deals, if the club aren’t sure just how good a player will be.
No need for Hoops to rush into signings
Some fans might be getting frustrated that the Hoops have yet to make any signings in January. However, there is still time. The window doesn’t close for another three weeks. That is more than enough time to bring new recruits to the club.
Celtic will no doubt be offered plenty of players by agents during the transfer window. The club will also have its own idea about players that they want to bring in. Hammond seems to be working incredibly hard to make sure that the deals get done.
With Celtic in a close title race, every transfer that the Hoops make will be scrutinised. That is why it is right that the Hoops take time to get the right deals done.
When Hammond completes his analysis, then Celtic can move forward on getting the deals done. It will be exciting to see who is the first player to join the Hoops in the quest for nine in a row.
