Neil Lennon disagrees with one thing Brendan Rodgers did after Celtic’s defeat at Hearts

Celtic fans will know all too well that there is further fallout from their 2-0 defeat to Heart of Midlothian to come.

In an affair that produced its fair share of contention, Adam Idah missed an early penalty following a tangle involving Hyunjun Yang and Alex Cochrane.

This was to be the tip of the iceberg, with Yang sent off in the immediate aftermath of the spot-kick for a high challenge on the same individual.

Despite being initially booked for his attempt to reclaim possession, Don Robertson was summoned to the monitor and emerged to heighten his punishment, sending the South Korea international for an early bath.

Moments before the interval, Tomoki Iwata was held culpable for a handball offence that enabled Jorge Grant to open the scoring from 12 yards despite being turned in the opposite direction during play.

Once again, VAR had a major input regarding the decision, with Robertson once again advised to review the incident before sounding for a penalty to the home side.

Brendan Rodgers was furious at full-time and took the step of naming one of the officials in his post-match press conference.

The Irishman stated: “I never like to comment on officials; it’s not something I do. But that cost us today. The officiating from on the field to John Beaton being in VAR, that was really, really poor.”

Ex-Celtic boss Neil Lennon doesn’t agree with naming officials

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has had his say on events at Tynecastle over the weekend, and he agreed with most of what Rodgers said in his assessment of a frustrating day in the capital.

However, the 52-year-old doesn’t think he should’ve named any officials despite his anger at the decisions on display that had their part to play in our eventual defeat. Lennon believes the Hoops boss could be subject to retrospective action for his comments.

Lennon stated [PLZ Soccer]: “I’ve been there myself, and I know the emotion of a defeat and how aggrieved Brendan would have felt after the game.

“There is history between him and John Beaton. You look back at a derby at Ibrox where he could have at least sent two or three players off for the opposition.

“Anyway, naming him it’s not great. And he could be in a bit of hot water for that. The rest of his comments I don’t have a problem with because the game was re-refereed yesterday. Although bottom line is it’s all down to Don Robertson’s interpretation of what he saw on the VAR allegedly.”

Celtic live to fight another day in the title race despite defeat

Dropping points for the eighth time in 29 Scottish Premiership matches this campaign wasn’t part of the plan for Celtic; however, Rangers also lost out to Motherwell, leaving us back where we started before last weekend’s action.

Undoubtedly, there is a sprinkling of good fortune in there given results elsewhere. Only two points separate ourselves and our rivals, which isn’t a lot in the grand scheme of things considering the two sides will face off twice between now and May.

The Bhoys host Livingston in the Scottish Cup this Sunday, where they will be keen to get back to winning ways amid the possibility of a trip to Hampden before returning to league action.
