Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed that he recently had talks with Leigh Griffiths about the player’s future at the club.
Griffiths’ future at Celtic is up in the air after the Hoops recently completed the signing of Patryk Klimala. His arrival along with the form of Odsonne Edouard could see Griffiths drop to third place in the striking pecking order at the club.
Lennon has said that despite the new Bhoy’s arrival, Griffiths is keen to remain at Celtic.
“He’s had a good Dubai trip, and he’s trained well again this week” Lennon said about Griffiths, as quoted by the BBC.
“Made that pretty clear”
“I can’t comment on speculation surrounding any player, really. There has been a lot over the last few months regarding Griffiths, but he’s hungry, and he wants to play, and he’s made that pretty clear to me” he concluded.
Going by Lennon’s comments, Griffiths wants to play football, and ideally that would be for Celtic. However, the chances are that he will be a bit-part player at best for the rest of the season.
There is very little chance that Odsonne Eoduard won’t start for Celtic for the rest of the season, when fit. When Edouard doesn’t play, he will be replaced by Patryk Klimala.
That will be one of the reasons that Klimala was signed by the club, to provide a challenge to Edouard. Griffiths just hasn’t worked as Edouard’s replacement, when he has been fit.
Might not get first-team football at Hoops
Even though Griffiths wants first-team football, he might not get it at Celtic, any time. Despite that, the Hoops should not entertain selling Griffiths in the January transfer window. He is still a useful player to have in the squad.
The right time to move the player on will be at the end of the season. Hopefully he will leave helping the Hoops clinch nine in a row.
