Celtic boss Neil Lennon can’t wait for the upcoming run of fixtures that could define the Hoops’ season, the Scottish Sun reports.
Starting with Sunday’s game against St Johnstone, the Hoops will embark on a 15 game run of fixtures between October and December which will see the team play six Europa League games, seven Premiership games, a Scottish Cup semi-final and a Betfred Cup second round tie.
That is a run of games that will surely test Celtic to the limit and could define the season. However, Lennon and his players are looking forward to it.
“It’s good for us”
“It’ll be good for us. We had it last season and it didn’t affect us. We want European football and I think they complement each other. I think it makes us better” Lennon said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“It’s going to be Thursday-Sunday games. But that’s what we want. The players want it and I know the fans want it as well” he concluded.
The Hoops boss is correct about how last season Celtic weren’t affected by the incredibly busy schedule that the team had.
However, this season is slightly different. The pandemic means that the Hoops will be playing on a far more regular basis than the team was last season.
Hoops have experience to deal with run of games
One advantage that Celtic will have though is that the team has the experience to deal with the frantic schedule. You can see Scott Brown telling his teammates to roll their sleeves up and get ready for the run of games.
Of course, the fact that Celtic have such a big squad at the moment is also an advantage. It will be utilised to the fullest during the upcoming run of games.
Will Celtic win all the games the team will play in this run of fixtures? Probably not. However, the Hoops are more than capable of winning the majority of them. Neil Lennon will know this. No wonder he is looking forward to the hectic schedule.
