Neil Lennon has reiterated that Celtic don’t have to sell Kieran Tierney this summer. It’s widely accepted by most Hoops fans that the 22-year-old will move on to pastures new this close-season with Arsenal the likely destination.

The Gunners have already had a £15million bid rejected for the Scotland international but are expected to come back for more. The Daily Mail recently reported that Celtic want £25million for the left-back who is contracted until 2023.

So will a deal be done? Well Neil Lennon says things have gone a little bit quiet on the Tierney front.

He told Sky Sports News: “I’m not aware of another bid yet. We had a bid from Arsenal, we respect the bid but we know that’s not anywhere near the valuation we see him at.

“We are in no position to sell. He’s on a long-term contract, he is an asset and we don’t want to sell.

“From his point of view, he needs to get fully fit. He’s working away in the background.”

If Arsenal want Tierney they should pay up

Lennon’s words are likely to give a little bit of hope to some Celtic fans who have written off Tierney as a departure. Of course the youngster may still move on this summer, but if he does then Celtic will get what they deserve for him.

Tierney will be in no rush to move from Celtic. He loves everything about the club from winning trophies to playing in Europe. He’s still got four years to go on his contract and Celtic are pretty well off financially at the moment.

All of those factors contribute to what Lennon is saying about having no need to sell. We’re perfectly entitled to ask for £25million and if Arsenal really want him then that’s the price they must pay. It’s as simple as that really.
