Leigh Griffiths’ return to form following the winter break has been an unexpected bonus for Celtic.
He has started all six of Celtic’s games since the club returned from Dubai, and in that time he has scored four goals.
Even better than his individual performances, have been Griffiths’ displays in partnership with Odsonne Edouard.
The duo have been in devastating form, and combined well most recently in the 4-0 win over Motherwell on Wednesday night.
Despite Griffiths’ return to form, the Celtic boss feels that the striker can improve his performances.
“He can get better”
“Leigh is a natural centre-forward. He can get better and fitter, but he’s got natural football intelligence” Lennon said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
Lennon’s comments should worry the rest of Scottish football. Griffiths when on his game is arguably one of the best strikers that Scotland has produced in recent years.
That hasn’t been the case in the last season, as the player had to deal with off-field problems.
Now that seems to have changed. If Griffiths can play like he currently is after six starts in a row, just imagine how good he can be once he gets more games under his belt.
Hoops career seemed to be coming to an end
That will benefit Celtic massively. Before the winter break it seemed like Griffiths’ time at Celtic could be coming to an end, as he was only making cameo appearances for the Hoops.
Now that has changed, and Griffiths has become an integral part of the current Celtic side. Credit for that has to go to the player, and to Neil Lennon.
Griffiths should be looking to get even better as the weeks and months go on. If he can do this, watch out the rest of Scottish football.
