Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon says Dunfermline’s Scottish Cup win over Aberdeen matches the achievements he made at the Hoops over two spells as the Parkhead gaffer.
Lennon won the cup that sealed Celtic’s historic Quadruple Treble back in 2021, a feat that has never been achieved in the history of football globally.
Let’s not forget, Lennon planned Celtic’s historic win over Barcelona back in 2012, so when he says Dunfermline’s 3-0 win over Aberdeen matches achievements like this, the Parkhead support will raise their eyebrows.
What is the best atmosphere you can remember on a European night at Celtic?
Neil Lennon says Dunfermline’s win vs Aberdeen ‘as good as’ Celtic achievements
Lennon was clearly delighted at his team’s performance against Aberdeen, but somehow it seems the emotion of the occasion got the better of the former Celtic manager.
Lennon told Premier Sports, “It’s beyond my wildest expectations. It’s one of the best things I’ve done in football. This is as good as it gets at the minute.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the team. I felt we had a chance in the game.
“I’ve watched Aberdeen three or four times over the last month or so. I felt we could compete with them.
“When we’re good, we’re very, very good. And we were very, very good tonight.
“Everything I asked of the team, they gave me.
“It’s a great night for everyone at the club and for the people of Dunfermline.
“We’ve put the club back on the Scottish football map.”
For Lennon as the Dunfermline manager, this is undoubtedly his biggest-ever achievement. But does it equal great European nights against Barcelona or big wins against Rangers in the Glasgow Derby?
The vast majority of Hoops supporters will undoubtedly say no.
