Celtic’s 2-1 win over St Mirren on Boxing Day was marked by a goal from Callum McGregor. The midfielder made the all-important breakthrough for the Hoops in the game, running onto to a pass back which had hit the post and firing home the rebound.
One man who was impressed by McGregor’s all round performance in the game was Celtic boss Neil Lennon. His one word verdict to describe McGregor’s performance in the game was ‘brilliant’.
“A high standard”
“Callum was brilliant all day again today. The run he made for the goal was fantastic, he’s playing at such a high standard” Lennon said, as quoted by the Celtic Twitter account following the victory.
🎙️ Neil Lennon: "Callum was brilliant all day again today. The run he made for the goal was fantastic, he’s playing at such a high standard. I’m delighted for Jamesy as well – I said to him before the game that he was due a goal and it was a brilliant goal." #STMCEL #SPFL

It was good to see McGregor find the back of the net for the Hoops. His goal against St Mirren was his sixth of the season. With the skills he possesses you would expect him to find the back of the net on more occasions. If he makes more runs into the box like he did against St Mirren, then the goals will surely follow.
Has often been excellent against Hoops rivals
One team that McGregor has scored against on more than one occasion is Rangers. Of course, the Hoops take on Rangers in a vital league game on Sunday. McGregor has already played on the winning side against the Ibrox side on two occasions this season. He will no doubt be eager to make it a hat-trick in Celtic’s last game of the decade.
Perhaps McGregor’s goal will encourage the player to get forward against the Ibrox side. Neil Lennon should encourage him to do that on Sunday. It could lead to joy for the Hoops going forward.
McGregor has been the model of consistency for Celtic throughout the calendar year of 2019. It would be a fitting way for yet another successful year to end with a goal and a victory against the Ibrox side.
