Celtic boss Neil Lennon has heaped praise on Hoops skipper Scott Brown. Lennon has singled out his captain ahead of Thursday’s Europa League match against Lazio.

Lennon feels that Brown’s experience will be vital in helping the Hoops get the three points that will put them on the verge of making the last 32 of the competition.

“His reading of the game and athleticism is as good as ever. He’ll be pivotal in stopping anything Lazio can create. His leadership qualities will be vital tomorrow night” the Celtic boss told the club Twitter account.

Giving Brown so much praise before such a big game could be putting pressure on the player. However, that is not necessarily the case with Brown.

He has seen and done it all in his decade plus time with Celtic. He will know what to expect from Lazio. Brown will be keen to make amends for what was by his high standards a poor performance when the Hoops lost to Cluj in the Champions League qualifiers.

Will want to make up for previous poor performance

The entire team were poor that night, but Brown will want to ensure that another performance like that doesn’t happen on his watch.

He will, as Lennon outlines, play a key role, along with the Hoops defence, in stopping Lazio from getting a foothold in the game.

That is a role that Brown has played to perfection over the years for Celtic. He will be tasked with doing it again to ensure that the Hoops pull off what would be a significant victory.

Brown is coming towards the end of his Celtic career, he may not have many European glory nights left. Hopefully Lennon’s comments inspire Brown to lead Celtic to victory.
