Celtic boss Neil Lennon is hopeful that the injured duo of Greg Taylor and Leigh Griffiths will be available for the Hoops’ Premiership clash against Kilmarnock on Sunday, the Daily Record reports.
Lennon confirmed that ahead of the Europa League game against Copenhagen that neither player – and long-term absentee Hatem Abd Elhamed – hadn’t made the trip to Denmark, but that Taylor and Griffiths could make the weekend’s game.
“Hatem Abd Elhamed hasn’t travelled, nor has Greg Taylor. He picked up an injury at the weekend. Leigh Griffiths picked up an injury in training. He’s got a slight twinge, but we’re hoping the latter two will be fit for the weekend” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
Timing of injuries is blow to duo
The timing of the current injuries is a blow to the Hoops duo. After struggling to make the team in the first-half of the season, both players have been regulars since the winter break.
Griffiths has forged a successful partnership with Odsonne Eduoard, whilst Taylor has made the left-back position his own.
Promising sign that absences won’t be lengthy
However, the fact that Lennon is hopeful that the duo could return as soon as the next league game is a promising sign.
Taylor in particular will want to feature in that game as he will have the chance to play against his former team. Should the duo regain their fitness, then they could return to the starting line-up, as Neil Lennon could make a few changes from the team that played in Copenhagen.
Both players have been key to Celtic’s run of good results in recent weeks, hopefully the Hoops boss’ injury diagnosis is correct and the pair can return for the Kilmarnock game.
