Interim Celtic manager Neil Lennon is hopeful of persuading Dedryck Boyata to commit his future to Celtic. The Hoops defender’s contract expires at the end of the season. However, Lennon hasn’t given up on keeping the centre-back at the club.

“We will sit down and discuss things” Lennon told the Daily Record.

“Boyata was outstanding for me the other night at Hearts, outstanding, and I like him a lot. I like him as a player.”

Boyata has returned from the January transfer window in exceptional form for the Hoops. He played a vital role in the recent victories over Hearts and Hibernian.

Leicester reportedly interested

Where Boyata’s future lies remains to be seen. Interestingly, the Scottish Sun recently reported that Brendan Rodgers wants to make Boyata one of his first signings in the summer for Leicester City.

If Lennon is able to persuade Boyata to stay for even one more season at Celtic it would be a huge boost for the Hoops going forward.

It could also be a sign to the Hoops board that Lennon is the man for the job long-term, if he is able to persuade Boyata to sign a new deal. Even Brendan Rodgers wasn’t able to do that.

The chances are, Boyata will more than likely move on from Celtic Park at the end of the season. That should not stop Lennon from trying the best he can from trying to persuade Boyata to stay though.
