Neil Lennon has made a telling statement, perhaps without even meaning it. The Northern Irishman was quoted by the Scottish Sun recently, looking at Celtic’s current defensive options following the signing of Christopher Jullien.
Th 48-year-old said: “We will possibly need another centre-half too.
“We are running with Kris Ajer, Jozo Simunovic and Jack Hendry at the moment.”
So what’s so telling about that? The omission of a rather infamous German.
Compper clearly has no future
The fact the Hoops boss didn’t even mention the 34-year-old German speaks volumes. Compper has become so forgotten about at Celtic Park that Lennon didn’t even feel the need to mention his presence.
The one-time German cap has played just 83 minutes for Celtic in 18 months. He has arguably been the club’s worst signing in the past decade after arriving for a fee of around £1million from RB Leipzig.
What makes Lennon’s blatant omission even more interesting is that Compper still has a full year on his contract. The German is understood to be on healthy wages and could see out his deal, costing the club upwards of £1million.
He clearly has absolutely no future at the club – that much is clear. Hopefully Lennon and co. can find him some new employers.
