There is no doubt that Celtic’s 2-1 win over Lazio in the Europa League is one of the Hoops’ best results in Europe for a good while.
The Hoops showed plenty of character to come back from a goal down and win thanks to goals from Ryan Christie and Christopher Jullien.
The Hoops are now in a good position to qualify and reach the last 32 of the tournament. Despite the notable victory, Celtic boss Neil Lennon is refusing to get carried away.
He believes that there is still plenty of work to do before the Hoops think about qualifying for the next stage of the competition.
“It’s a great position to be in” he told the official Celtic Twitter account.
“A lot of work to do”
“It’s so important to win your home games. We have 7 points now but there’s still a lot of work in the group to ensure we qualify.”
Lennon’s attitude is the correct one to have. Celtic are in a great position to make the next stage. However, there is still a way to go to clinch that place in the last 32.
Lazio had some very good spells in the game. They will no doubt provide Celtic with a stern test when the teams meet in the next game in the group stage.
Victory is a good sign for team
However, it can only be a good thing for Celtic that they can pull off a significant victory despite playing poorly for spells in the game.
That bodes well for Celtic’s chances of progression in the tournament. For the moment though, Lennon won’t have a lot of time to reflect on Celtic’s win. He takes the Hoops to Aberdeen on Sunday in what is a vital league match.
