Neil Lennon looks set to be faced with a dilemma similar to one faced by former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers. The Hoops interim manager looks set to go into a game against Rangers with left-back Kieran Tierney unable to start the game.
The Scottish Sun is reporting that Tierney is a doubt for next Sunday’s Glasgow derby after picking up a calf injury on international duty.
Better solution than Rodgers
If Tierney misses the game, Lennon will have a big decision to make when it comes to who plays left-back for the Hoops. Hopefully he will come up with a better solution than the one Rodgers did.
Rodgers decided to play Callum McGregor in Tierney’s place for the trip to Ibrox in December. The move backfired, as the Hoops slumped to a 1-0 defeat. Tierney was on the bench that day, but was never likely to play a role in the game.
Avoid obvious mistake
Neil Lennon will surely avoid that mistake should Tierney miss the derby. The likes of Emilio Izaguirre and Jonny Hayes are fit and available. Either of those players is more than capable of playing at left-back. Lennon could perhaps even change his system if need be.
A move to three at the back could be in order. Should Lennon decide that is the best way to cope with Tierney’s absence, that could be an option.
As long as Lennon doesn’t play Celtic’s best midfielder at left-back, the Hoops should improve on their last performance against Rangers. That is even if Tierney has to miss the game.
