Celtic manager Neil Lennon has followed Peter Lawwell’s praise for Nick Hammond with similar comments about the Head of Football Operations, The Daily Record report (AGM live blog, 12:00).
The Celtic chief executive spoke about his ‘high, high hopes’ for the recruitment guru earlier this morning and the Celtic boss clearly feels similarly strongly.
After the departure of Lee Congerton earlier this summer there was a fair bit of upheaval at the club in terms of scouting and player acquisition and Lennon thinks Hammond has filled the role perfectly.
As quoted by The Daily Record report (AGM live blog, 12:00), he said: “Hammond has been a massive help.
“We’ve replaced (departed) players with quality. There was a huge gap in recruitment when Brendan and Lee (Congerton) left.
“It was important he had a look at it first. He produced a brilliant report and he is my go-to guy. His personality energises you.”

Key relationship
If Celtic are to continue to be successful over the coming years it’s absolutely crucial that our manager and our man tasked with recruitment have a functional and fruitful relationship.
That Lennon is so happy with the current dynamic should be very pleasing to us as Celtic supporters.
So far the duo have played their cards right in the transfer market.
You need only look at players such as Jeremie Frimpong currently emerging in the first-team to see it all working in practice. Hammond is helping the club get deals for talents over the line and Lennon is giving them the opportunities they need in the Celtic first-team.
After the hole that Rodgers and Congerton left us in when it comes to recruitment, which Lennon described as ‘huge’, it’s one of the more promising developments at Celtic Park over the last six months.
