Neil Lennon not ruling out more big spending for Celtic

Neil Lennon hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Celtic spending big money again this summer.

The club have already spent a reported £7million on Christopher Jullien while Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo arrived for a decent sum too. But with £25million banked following the sale of Kieran Tierney, some Hoops fans want to see the club go again.

Lennon was asked by press about the prospect of Celtic spending another large fee on one or two players this summer.

“We might do that,” he said. (Celtic official YouTube channel – 8:00)

“No one’s saying we’re not doing that. We’re maybe not going to go out and break the transfer record but we will look to add quality to the squad.

“I’d imagine we won’t spend all of the money but we’ll spend some of it I’m sure.”

Will we see Lennon and Celtic spending big again?

It will be interesting to see if Celtic do look to push the boat out again this summer. We’re still probably in need of a new right-back and left-back while Lennon has also pinpointed some other areas of the pitch worth strengthening.

Our finances were in a solid state prior to Tierney’s departure so you can only imagine how good they are now. If we were to make the group stage of the Champions League then the club could really look to shell out.

Spending big money has never really been the way of the Celtic board. We discovered the likes of Victor Wanyama and Virgil Van Dijk for relatively modest fees. However, we have also proven that investing in talent can have real benefits.

Odsonne Edouard cost the club £9million but is worth at least double that now. Olivier Ntcham is another that we had to fork out for, but now he’s increased his valuation too.

It would be really positive to see the club spend money on real quality in a couple of areas. We’re not badly in need of numbers. It’s just that added bit of quality in some positions.
