Neil Lennon on the one thing he would change about Celtic-Rangers fixture

Celtic boss Neil Lennon is a veteran of many Glasgow derbies. He has played and managed in plenty of the matches. Therefore, he is more than qualified to give his opinion on the fixture.

Lennon believes recent games between the teams have lacked something. That something being, the number of away fans.

Since last season, away fans at the fixtures have been reduced from more than seven thousand to less than one thousand.

Lennon feels that has taken something away from the fixture.

“I would like to have more fans in the stadium as I think that’s taken something away from both fixtures, whether that’s Celtic Park or Ibrox” Lennon said, as reported by Football Scotland.

“It’s up to the powers that be whether that will change, it’s not for me to say. That’s my viewpoint having played in millions of them and managed in loads of them as well.”

Change not likely to happen soon

The Celtic boss might hope that situation involving away fans changes, but that is not likely to happen any time soon.

Last season the home side won all four of the derbies played between the teams. A statistic that Celtic will be looking to bring to an end on Sunday.

The large number of away fans certainly contributed to the atmosphere at Glasgow derbies in the past. However, for the moment it looks like those days are firmly in the past.
