In the next five days, Celtic will play two very important games. Firstly, they take on Hibs in the Betfred Cup semi-final on Saturday.
Then, they take on Lazio in the Europa League on Thursday, knowing that a win in Rome would all but clinch qualification for the last 32 of the competition.
When it comes to prestige, the Lazio game is the bigger of the two. However, Lennon has disclosed that he isn’t even thinking about the Lazio game yet. The Hibs game has got all of his focus for now.
“You just bench Lazio completely and just focus on Hibs” Lennon said, as reported by the Scotsman.
“Motivation and focus”
“The cup record is really important to them as well in both the competitions, so our whole motivation and focus is on Hibs, and we’ll think about Lazio come Sunday.”
Celtic’s players will be fully in agreement with Lennon’s comments. At the moment, the Betfred Cup will be the only game they are focusing on.
Players will be looking to extend remarkable record
As Lennon points out, the players will be desperate to maintain their remarkable record in domestic cup competitions.
They will want to make it 30 victories in a row in domestic cups, a record that stretches back to 2016. As soon as the game against Hibs is over, then thoughts will turn to Europe.
It can’t be easy for the players to focus on three competitions at once. However, the current Celtic side will be used to that. The two games over the next week should hold no fears for the Hoops, but they must focus on one game at a time.
