In the wake of Celtic’s first ever win in Italy, the 2-1 victory over Lazio, Hoops boss Neil Lennon has been reflecting on how the team has managed to find success in Europe.

The reason for the upturn in form, according to the Celtic manager, is that the team have managed to find some consistency away from home in Europe. The Hoops are unbeaten in six games away from home in Europe this season. Lennon feels that has made a big difference.

“I think what this current team have done is been really consistent away from home” Lennon said, in an interview with Celtic’s YouTube channel.

“Particularly this season. That has always been maybe a blot against us, even in the team that I played in, we were fantastic at home and couldn’t pick up points away from home. This team can do both.”

In Lennon’s time as a Celtic player, the Hoops were fantastic at home, but found it difficult to pick up points on the road. The same could also be said about Brendan Rodgers’ side, who struggled away from home in Europe.

That does not seem to be the case with Neil Lennon’s Celtic side, in his second spell as manager. He has managed to navigate some very difficult ties, whilst picking up points at home.

The Hoops arguably should have maximum points in the Europa League. They were unfortunate to draw 1-1 with Rennes in their opening group stage game.

However, it is a testament to the manager that the players didn’t let that disappointment get to them. The same could be said after the 4-3 loss to Cluj in the Champions League. Some teams could have folded after that poor result.

The opposite has happened to this Celtic side. They have got stronger as the games have progressed in Europe. Credit for that has to be given to Neil Lennon and his players.
