Neil Lennon has explained the plans that will be put in place for his Celtic first-team stars tomorrow.

While the rest of us are tucking into our turkey and trimmings, the Hoops squad will have their eyes on the important Boxing Day league game at St. Mirren.

But the preparation for that one isn’t quite as strict as some may suggest, as Lennon revealed the Christmas Day plans to press on Tuesday.

“They’ll be in during the morning and they we’ll give them the afternoon and the evening with their families, which I think is very important,” he told the official Celtic YouTube channel.

“We have players here from around the world, it’s an important time of the season from a footballing point of view. From a personal point of view it’s important that they have their loved ones around them as well.

“You’re just hoping that they look after themselves and have a nice Christmas day.”

Lennon is well versed in how Christmas works at Celtic

The fixture list has been relatively kind to the Celtic first-team stars around the festive period. We may be away from home on Boxing Day but Paisley is about as local an encounter as we can get in Scotland – and that should allow the players a little more time with their families on the big day.

It’s a nice move from the club not to force the team to spend their entire Christmas Day at Lennoxtown. Yes, fitness and preparation is important, but surely being happier and relaxed is even more vital with two big games on the horizon.

We really can’t afford to give St. Mirren any presents on Boxing Day. The team have to be right at it from the first minute and send out a message that we won’t be dropping any daft points.

The following game against Rangers will take care of itself. For now, it’s all about the Buddies on Boxing Day, and maximum points.
