Celtic boss Neil Lennon says that Hatem Abd Elhamed picked up another groin injury during the club’s trip to Dubai.

The Northern Irishman also revealed that the club don’t know the exact nature of the Israel international’s problem.

Lennon gave the concerning update during his pre-Partick Thistle press conference on Friday.

The club tweeted some of the gaffer’s quotes on the official Twitter feed, and it was his comments on summer recruit Elhamed that were perhaps the most alarming.

Lennon later said that he hopes to have the right-back fit by the end of the month.

However, the fact that the club still don’t have a proper handle on what’s up with him, given he’s been out for so long, has to be a concern.

Lennon must be a little concerned about Elhamed

The 28-year-old has missed our last 12 matches – last featuring in our glorious 2-1 triumph away to Lazio.

Jeremie Frimpong and Moritz Bauer have filled in pretty well in the subsequent period although there is a feeling that Elhamed may still be our most reliable defensive option.

But reliable isn’t a word you can use to describe the Hapoel Beer Sheva man at present.

Incredibly enough, he has only played four league matches since joining in the summer, with the majority of his appearances saved for European competition.

Frimpong is likely to be registered for our Europa League knockout matches, so there isn’t a massive fear over Elhamed as far as the Copenhagen tie is concerned.

But there must be growing concern over the fitness of a man we paid £1.6million (Scottish Sun) for just six months ago.
