A Celtic player who has been a mainstay for the first-team is Kristoffer Ajer, and Neil Lennon, as reported by the Daily Record, has paid tribute to the player’s performances so far this season.
Ajer has solid at the heart of Celtic’s defence this season, for the most part alongside Christopher Jullien, and now with Jullien and a third defender, as the Hoops have recently moved to a 3-5-2 formation.
The Hoops boss praised Ajer’s performances, as well of those of the Hoops midfield.
“Olivier Ntcham has been terrific as well. He’s playing exceptionally well alongside Scott Brown and Callum McGregor. Kris Ajer has been a model of consistency all season” Lennon said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
It is interesting to note that the Hoops boss only singled out one defender for praise, and that Ajer is that man.
That does not mean that Lennon thinks that Celtic’s other defenders have not performed well, obviously, as they have for the most part.
A regular since the very start of the season
Ajer is the only Hoops defender who has been a regular since the very start of the season though. It took Jullien around a month to get up to speed with the Hoops, and in that time Ajer was partnered with Jozo Simunovic.
However, the partnership of Ajer and Jullien has been rock solid from around September. The number of goals Celtic have conceded in the league is quite remarkable, only 15 goals in 25 games.
Key reason defensive record is so impressive
Ajer has played in 23 of those games, therefore he is one of the main reasons why Celtic’s defence has been so impressive in the league so far this season.
He deserves the credit that Neil Lennon gave him. The player won’t be resting on his laurels though, as he knows that he will have to keep performing well to ensure that the Hoops stay top of the league.
For now though, Ajer can be satisfied with his season so far.
