Neil Lennon says it’s ‘not a good look’ that Brendan Rodgers didn’t get what he wanted from the Celtic board during the summer transfer window.

The winter transfer window is set to re-open in less than a month and talk has started about what changes could be made to the Celtic squad.

It has been ignited by Celtic’s very poor showing in the Champions League this season, which if it ends in defeat against Feyenoord in the last Group E match, then it could look even worse.

But Neil Lennon was told by PLZ Soccer presenter Peter Martin that, at the start of the campaign, there were suggestions that Brendan Rodgers wanted ‘two or three good players in to supplement the squad’, but he never got it.

And now all of that talk is coming out, which the former Bhoys manager thinks isn’t great, as he told PLZ Soccer.

The thing with Celtic pushing to sign players in January is that the thought process would be to also look ahead to next season.

Fans are looking for meaningful stars to come in, but as Neil Lennon pointed out, and he will know by experience, it’s something that is very tricky to do.

Celtic, Brendan Rodgers and transfer plans

“As I mentioned to you at the start of the campaign,” said Peter Martin “He wanted two or three good players in to supplement the squad. Never mind the ones for the future.

“Then, lo and behold, that story has come out and he has admitted that he wanted four.”

Lennon responded with surprise: “Oh really?! Okay, it’s not a good look. I think they have to look at January now.

“I am telling you now, it’s difficult to do business in January. When people know you want players, they are going to ask for more money. Agents are going to hold out for more wages. And clubs don’t want to let players go in January, so there is going to have to be some quality work done. It’s obvious to everyone that Brendan wants more quality players in the building.”

Patience is needed in the transfer window

The European performances are nearly done. There is no point in looking back and feeling sorry for yourself.

Yes, it’s evident that the gap is big, and that needs to be at the centre of transfer discussions going forward, even if it means that player coming to the club in the summer rather than next month.

The right players are needed, not to win the title, but to compete and fight harder in Europe.

This is where the powers that be also need to trust Rodgers and his judgment calls, or else, there was no point bringing him back in the first place.
