Neil Lennon seems to be promising Celtic evolution, not revolution

Now that Neil Lennon has been confirmed as Celtic’s new manager, the club can start to plan ahead for next season.

One of the key aspects will be recruitment of players. Interestingly, judging by comments made by Lennon he doesn’t plan on reinventing the wheel at Celtic Park.

It looks as if the core of the side which has won the ‘treble treble’ will remain at the heart of his Celtic side.

“Recruitment will be important as there will be players leaving. We want to freshen things up a little bit” he said, as reported by the BBC.

Players will be moving on, as he says. But you can also take from his comments about freshening things up that there won’t be a huge turnover of players.

Unrealistic to expect huge changes

Indeed, why would there be. Celtic do have a big squad. But it is unrealistic to expect 10 players to leave the club and 10 to come in.

It makes more sense to add a few additions to the squad, rather than a raft of changes. You would imagine that the likes of Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, Odsonne Edouard and Kieran Tierney will continue to be mainstays of the Hoops side under Lennon.

Perhaps in a few years time if Lennon is still in charge of Celtic it will be time to break the team up and start afresh.

For now though, it looks as if the Hoops will be going through a process of evolution, and not revolution.
