Celtic manager Neil Lennon is adamant that target Luca Connell is available on a cut-price deal this summer. The 18-year-old midfielder has been linked heavily with the Glasgow giants in recent weeks but a recent report suggested that the Hoops would have to pay a transfer fee for his services.
The Bolton News reported that the midfielder is still contracted as a third-year scholar at the club. That means that he won’t be able to be poached for a development fee of £250,000 as rumoured.
The same news outlet have today reported that Connell has had a request to terminate his contract turned down by Wanderers administrators. The 18-year-old reportedly handed in his 14-day notice but was told that the English club would stand firm and demand a transfer fee.
Celtic disagree with Bolton stance
Hoops boss Neil Lennon is pretty sure that Celtic won’t have to shell out a hefty fee. He told the Scottish Sun: “We believe he’s available on a free transfer and talks are ongoing.”
The waters do seem to be a little murky when it comes to Connell. Bolton’s administrators are saying one thing and Celtic another. Both seem adamant they are right too, so things could get a little interesting if a compromise isn’t reached.
The player clearly wants to move to Glasgow. He’s been given the VIP tour of the stadium and has met Celtic representatives. Hopefully a deal can be concluded soon and he can get his wish.
