Neil Lennon has disclosed just how eager Shane Duffy is to feature for Celtic against Rangers this afternoon, the Daily Record reports.
Duffy is a well-known Celtic fan. The game is no doubt one of those he has been looking forward to the most since joining the Hoops from Brighton. Now Neil Lennon has talked up how the player will feel about making his Glasgow derby debut.
“He’s been a star”
“Shane will be champing at the bit, and he’s been a star for us ever since he came in. He has leadership qualities, he’s good in the dressing-room and, in general, his play has been of a very high standard. He’ll be very, very important, he’ll give us that physical presence which is always crucial in these games” Lennon said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
Duffy will be one of the players expected to be Celtic’s leaders on the pitch for the game. That is a big call to make for a player who has only been at Celtic for a short time. However, he is the captain of Ireland, and will not shirk from any responsibilities.
Crunching challenge would show who is boss
A good way to do that would be a crunching challenge in the first few moments of the game. That would be Duffy showing who is going to be boss. On the other hand he would probably get booked by the referee if he did that, so maybe not.
Still, Duffy is going to be very important for Celtic at both ends of the pitch. He is more than capable of scoring for the Hoops in the derby. It is just a pity that should he bullet home a header, Duffy won’t be able to celebrate with the fans. That would have been a sight to see.
However, that should not stop Duffy from hopefully having a debut to remember. He knows what this game is all about, and that can only be a good thing for Celtic.
