Celtic manager Neil Lennon is delighted that the club have appointed Gavin Strachan to his backroom staff as a first-team coach, speaking to the official Hoops website.
The former assistant manager at Peterborough United has been officially announced as a new employee at Celtic this afternoon, joining Lennon’s tight-knit group of staff that also includes John Kennedy.
It was a much-needed move after the departure of Damien Duff at the end of last season for family reasons.
With pre-season underway and the push for a tenth title in a row set to kick-off in August, Strachan adds experience and personality to the Lennoxtown crew.
He arrives after the club created a shortlist containing multiple candidates but has clearly demonstrated he has the qualities Lennon needs ahead of next season.
As quoted by CelticFC.net, the manager said: “We are delighted to bring Gavin to Celtic, he is a brilliant appointment for us and someone I know will work really well with myself, John Kennedy, the players and the rest of our backroom team.
“We had a number of options for the role but Gavin was the outstanding candidate. He is a really talented, experienced, hard working and respected coach and I know he has the right qualities to make a great contribution to the Club. We are all really pleased to welcome Gavin to our team.”
Strachan, of course, has family ties to Celtic after his father Gordon managed the club for four years between 2005 and 2009, winning three league titles and guiding the Hoops to the last 16 of the Champions League twice.
Hopefully a bit of that no-nonsense, successful coaching style has rubbed off on his son as we bid to win more trophies next term.

The 41-year-old is understandably overjoyed to be moving to Glasgow, telling CelticFC.net: “It is a huge honour to be appointed to this position with Celtic, such a giant of a Club and a real iconic footballing institution – this really is an opportunity I could simply not turn down. I am hugely excited about getting started with Neil, John and the players as we get ready for the challenges ahead.”
All the best Gavin in your new role!
