Neil Lennon updates on Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Kristoffer Ajer injury concerns
Celtic manager Neil Lennon is waiting on the fitness of Kristoffer Ajer following Sunday’s match away to St Johnstone, The Scottish Sun report.
Ajer, Callum McGregor and James Forrest all appear to have picked up knocks during the physical encounter.
The threesome have been consistently found in Lennon’s first-team this season so any of them dropping out for Wednesday night’s match against Livingston would obviously be a blow.
After the match yesterday, Lennon gave an update on visible problems suffered by McGregor and Forrest, telling The Scottish Sun: “Callum got whacked by a clearance from Bitton. Bitton’s calling it a pass!
“Callum was in agony and needed a caffeine shot or something. I don’t know what it was – a magic potion. He should be fine.
“We’ll see how James is. It was a dead leg but I’m hoping he’ll be okay for Wednesday.”
At his press conference today, there was also an update on Ajer, who appears to be the one most doubtful to play in West Lothian.
Lennon stated: “We are waiting on Kris Ajer to see how he is, he had a bit of a sore thigh.”
Luckily the manager has a number of options to choose from, to cope with any of the trio being out of action.
A move to a back four could result in Jeremie Frimpong replacing Ajer, while the youngster could also cover for Forrest if there’s to be a 3-5-2.
With Nir Bitton capable of playing alongside Christopher Jullien and Hatem Abd Elhamed returning to the bench at the weekend, we should have enough quality on the pitch in any eventuality.
It’s something of a revenge mission for Celtic after losing away to Livingston earlier in the season. Gary Holt’s side will likely prove to be a tough test again.
However, the prize of victory should focus the Bhoys and ensure we at least maintain our lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
