Neil Lennon has revealed that urged his Celtic players to put on a worthwhile performance for the fans who travelled long distances to get to Dingwall to see the Hoops play Ross County on Sunday lunchtime.

Lennon spoke to the players in the dressing room before the game and told them that it is up to them to entertain the fans who have come from far and wide to see the Hoops.

The fans were certainly entertained as Celtic cruised to a 4-1 victory.

“I’ve got to pay tribute to the fans” Lennon said, as reported by the Celtic View (Volume 55, Issue 22, Page. 07).

“I heard a story that there was a bus that left from Stranraer at half-past four in the morning. I said to the players before the game – these guys travel a long way, and it’s up to you to entertain them.”

It is good to see Lennon use the fans as motivation for the players. That shows that he understands what the club is about. Celtic are at their very best when the fans and the club are united as one. That certainly seems to be the case at the moment.

Similar motivation before cup final?

Will Lennon use the fans to motivate the players when Celtic take on Rangers in Sunday’s Betfred Cup Final? He might well do so. He could explain to his team that they don’t want to let down the 20,000 plus Celtic support that will be at Hampden Park. If the tactic worked against Ross County, whose to say that it won’t against Rangers?

Celtic are in a great run of form at the moment, when 10 wins in all competitions. That could be why fans are so eager to see the team, the football Celtic are currently plating is excellent. Hopefully that continues against both Hamilton and Rangers in the next week.
