Neil Lennon warns his players against complacency

It looks like Neil Lennon is keen to learn from some mistakes earlier this season, as he warned his Celtic stars against complacency.

The Hoops have been terrific for the most part this season, winning 18 of their 23 matches in all competitions thus far. However, there have been a few slips along the way that have perhaps brought expectations down a little.

The defeats to both Cluj and Livingston stick out like a sore thumb. The ironic thing is that both losses came at a time when the team were firing on all cylinders and full of confidence.

Complacency perhaps entered the Celtic squad’s mind. But it won’t be allowed to happen again judging by the boss’ latest comments.

“We’ve seen evidence of what the team is capable of and we want more of that focus and intensity in our play,” Lennon said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“If you start getting complacent or if you start thinking it’s easy, which it’s not, or if you start coming off it then, one, you will be out of the team and, two, there will be a lot of questions asked about you.

“So it’s important you maintain that will to win and desire and intensity week in and week out. At the minute we have a title race on.”

Lennon must solve Celtic complacency issue

It’s easy to have a bit of sympathy for Lennon given Celtic’s current situation. The team are expected to win virtually every match with criticism never far away if they do slip up.

Our form so far this season has been pretty good. Most Celtic fans would have settled to be top of the league, top of our Europa League group and in the last four of the Betfred Cup at the start of the season. Yet nothing has been settled yet. The team haven’t achieved a single thing.

Hopefully Lennon and the team can get rid of any complacency that has perhaps dogged them so far this season. There was a lot wrong about both defeats to Cluj and Livingston, with the players’ lack of application abundantly clear.

There’s real character in this squad. They’ve shown that when they’ve been behind in matches. Hopefully now they can learn to stay on top when doing well.
