Celtic boss Neil Lennon has provided an update on Hoops striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo. The Hoops boss has confirmed that the club will find out on Monday if the player needs an operation.
“Bayo’s seeing a specialist on Monday, so we’ll know then if he requires surgery or not” Lennon told the official Celtic Twitter account.
Could be out for six weeks
Lennon had previously revealed that the player could be out for six weeks if he required surgery. Monday’s meeting with the specialist will be vital to Bayo’s immediate future as a Celtic player.
Should he requires surgery it will be a real blow to the player. It would mean that he isn’t likely to feature that much for the Hoops before the winter break in December.
However, should the player not require surgery, then hopefully he can be back earlier than expected. Bayo has had to deal with a number of injuries since joining the Hoops for £2 million in January.
Unable to gain foothold in team
He has unable to gain a foothold in the team because of the injury issues. With Leigh Griffiths returning to first-team training, that could leave Bayo will fewer opportunities than he has had so far this season.
That is why the outcome of the meeting with the specialist could define much of the player’s immediate future. It could also help to decide if Celtic are planning to sign another striker or not.
Hopefully the injury is not so severe that the outcome of the meeting is surgery. It would be best for the player and the club if he manages to avoid being out of action for six weeks.
