Towards the end of Neil Lennon’s press conference before Celtic’s game against Hibs, the Hoops boss made an interesting comment about Nick Hammond, Celtic’s head of recruitment.

He revealed that Hammond is already ‘working feverishly away’ on potential transfers for January.

“It’s a work in progress at the minute, Nick has been working feverishly away behind the scenes he’ll report back to Peter (Lawwell) and the board on that” he said, in a video that appeared on Celtic’s YouTube channel.

The fact that Hammond is already working on potential transfer deals for Celtic can only be a good thing for the club.

It shows forward planning that has not always been in evidence when it comes to Celtic transfers. The fact that Hammond is still involved at Celtic seems to indicate that he looks to be a permanent fixture at the club.

When he first joined Celtic it was on a temporary basis. However, as he is working on deals for the future he now seems to be a key man at the club.

It will be interesting to see the players that Celtic sign in the next transfer window. In the last transfer window, the Hoops signed a lot of prospects.

Focus this time on experienced players?

Perhaps this time the focus will be on experienced players. The Hoops have a big squad at the moment, so there is no need to add a host of players to the squad.

However, perhaps three or four experienced players will make a difference to the Celtic squad. Celtic fans may well be encouraged by the comments made by the Hoops manager.

It shows that Celtic are hoping to get business done early in the next transfer window. Of course, it all depends on Peter Lawwell agreeing to the players that Hammond has identified for the club. Should that happen though, it could be an exciting January transfer window for the Hoops.
