Radio pundit Neil McCann reckons that former Celtic man Stuart Armstrong is hugely frustrated with things at present.
Ex-Rangers man McCann was talking on BBC Sportsound (6pm, 13/10/2019) following Scotland’s 6-0 win over San Marino. Armstrong netted the final goal in the rout but it was what happened after that McCann interestingly observed.

“I was watching him when he took the free-kick and put it in the net”, McCann told host Richard Gordon. “He didn’t smile and it took Ryan Christie to come across and give him a ruffle of the hair and just get him going.
“You can see that there’s a huge amount of frustration in Stuart. You can see that his club stuff is coming with him to international level.”

McCann observation on Armstrong is probably fair
McCann was alluding to the fact that £7million man Armstrong has found appearances at club side Southampton hard to come by in recent weeks. The midfielder hasn’t started a game for the Premier League side all season and has instead had to settle for sporadic substitute appearances.
Armstrong will almost certainly be keen to get out on loan in January and you do wonder whether Celtic may be an ideal place for him to get some game time.

We are a little bit light in central-midfield at present and could do with someone to take the pressure off the shoulders of Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor and Scott Brown. Armstrong could do and add us a threat from long distance that perhaps only Christie does at present.
We already have two players on loan from Southampton but, providing there would be no SPFL rules prohibiting this, it may make sense for Celtic to put the smile back on Armstrong’s face.
