Pundit Neil McCann thinks Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard is a better footballer than Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos, speaking to BBC Radio Scotland.
Edouard was again in superb form for Neil Lennon’s side, scoring a fine double to help the Bhoys move seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
His first was a sublime free-kick from the edge of the box with the second coming after an excellent combination with Tom Rogic.
It means he’s now moved onto 21 goals for the season, also contributing an amazing 16 assists (Transfermarkt).
For McCann there is now no question about who is operating at a high level, feeling Edouard is a more cultured and graceful performer than the Ibrox man.
Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, he said: “I’ve had many a discussion about who is better, Morelos or Edouard and I’ve felt like Morelos is a more natural type finisher. But without doubt, there is no question Edouard is a better footballer in my opinion.
“He’s got more culture about him, he’s colder in the mind. It’s a different type of striker. Morelos will score goalscorer type goals smash things, get them in the net.
“Most of Edouard’s goals are just so cultured, finished with aplomb, really beautiful goals. I love watching him. I said he was graceful, I said he has twinkle-toes.”
The best player in Scotland
In sheer numbers Morelos is clearly leading the scoring charts in the country this season, netting 28 in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
However, as McCann alludes to, Edouard just has an all-round game that presents far more of a danger on a consistent basis. The French U21 striker is also a man for a big occasion scoring in cup finals and derbies, unlike the Colombian.
Edouard is an unselfish player who will also look to set up his teammates as much as have a shot on goal. His intelligence on the ball and vision to unlock packed defences is incredible.
The conclusion that Edouard is better than Morelos is nothing new for Celtic fans but to hear a Rangers-favouring pundit like McCann, who played with the Ibrox club, weigh in on the debate with such a conclusion is notable.
