New Celtic signing Jota has today told the media that he’s comfortable in as many as four different positions.

The tricky winger is on loan from Benfica for the season. Celtic, however, have an option to buy clause in the deal should things work out.

The Portuguese under-21 international has primarily operated on the left throughout his career. However, he’s also featured on the left and at times in behind the centre-forward. And speaking to the media today, the player has confirmed that he’s comfortable in four different positions.

Versatility is something Ange Postecoglou clearly admires in his players. And knowing he can operate in several positions will do his chances of playing time no harm.

Jota spent last season on loan with Real Valladolid. He played in a host of positions despite only making 18 appearances for the La Liga club.

Make no mistake, his main position will be on the left flank. It’s the main area in which we’re short in and it was why he was signed. Not until Mikey Johnston is back from injury can we use the Portuguese elsewhere if necessary.

However, he could be useful option to use as a potential number 10. After all, David Turnbull and Tom Rogic certainly have their off days. Even if it’s during a game, knowing that Jota can slot into a central position should give the opposition plenty to think about.

Celtic fans will be itching to see whether the player makes his debut against Ross County on Saturday. The winger has been involved with Benfica during their pre-season campaign. But his last competitive match came back in May.

Jota has plenty of expectation on his shoulders. Replacing Mohamed Elyounoussi on the Celtic left flank would be a difficult task for anyone.

Hopefully, he’s ready to jump straight into the side this weekend and show us what he’s all about. And if necessary, it’s great to know he’s comfortable adapting to other positions.
