Many Celtic fans will be cheering on New York City in the MLS this season, due to the side’s Bhoys connection.

As most Hoops fans will be aware, four and five-in-a-row hero Ronny Deila will be managing the east coast side for the coming season after his intriguing appointment earlier this month.

And the Celtic love-in doesn’t stop there. Deila inherits a playing squad that includes former Hoops winger Gary Mackay-Steven – who swapped Scotland for the States last summer.

Deila and GMS had a pretty good relationship at Celtic, from the outside at least, with the Norwegian signing the mercurial talent alongside fellow Dundee United player Stuart Armstrong back in 2015.

And the pair got reacquainted on Thursday as New York City took to Twitter to share an image from sunny Florida.

Deila and Mackay-Steven could forge a neat partnership again

Mackay-Steven must’ve been pretty buzzing when he found out Deila would be joining him in New York.

Moving out to the States can’t have been easy for the winger, and seeing another friendly face around will do him the world of good.

Having already settled in New York many would expect GMS to go on and have a pretty good year.

He will certainly have the backing of many Celtic fans who are likely to take more than a passing interest in the league, given that Lewis Morgan will soon be out there too.

Wouldn’t it be just amazing if Deila and Mackay-Steven could repeat their Celtic magic and take home the MLS title.
