One interesting aspect of Celtic’s 3-2 Glasgow Cup win over Rangers on Tuesday night was the performance of Jack Aitchison.
Aitchison, who is currently on loan at Alloa, scored the Hoops’ second goal in the game.
It seems like next season could well be a make or break season for the player, and his chances of making it at Celtic Park.
Hasn’t had chance to impress Lennon
Since moving to Alloa, he has scored one goal in 11 appearances. He hasn’t had the chance to impress interim manager Neil Lennon, unlike Mikey Johnston, who also scored in the Glasgow Cup win.
Still, you would imagine that when he returns to Celtic in the summer, this will be his chance to impress either Neil Lennon or the new manager.
It is a chance he should be looking to take. Celtic have failed to really land a support striker to Odsonne Edouard.
New signing has rarely featured
Vakoun Issouf Bayo has rarely featured. Whilst Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke look set to leave the club in the summer.
If Aitchison impresses in training, he could well be given a chance in the pre-season friendlies at least. Who knows, if he does well in them he could be handed a start in the opening rounds of the Champions League qualifiers.
Aitchison’s contract runs for another two years, so time is still on his side. But if he wants to make an impression at Celtic, this summer is the time to do it.
